Video answers

Ask a question. Hear the answer in their own words.

Add a video question to any survey and your members answer it on camera, straight from their browser. You watch each answer next to the rest of their response, and turn it into text with one click when you need the words.

How it works

From the question to the transcript, in four steps.

  1. You add a video question

In the survey builder, choose Video answer as the question's type. It sits on a page of the survey like any other question. If the AI drafts your survey for you, it suggests a video question wherever a spoken answer would tell you more.

  2. The member records

They press the “Record a video answer” button and allow their camera and microphone. They have up to 90 seconds, a timer on screen shows how much they have used, and recording stops by itself when time is up. They can watch it back and re-record before they submit.

  3. It arrives with the response

When the member submits, the video arrives together with the rest of their answers, so you never get a response without its recording. If their connection drops, the recording stays on their screen, so they send it again without recording twice.

  4. You watch, then transcribe

In the survey's results, each answer has its own card, with a player and the length of the video. Press Transcribe on an answer and the speech becomes text, saved on that answer for anyone who opens it later.

A worked example

One question, as the member sees it and as you receive it.

The question and answer are made up for this page. The buttons, timer and time limit are exactly what your members see.

What the member sees

Show us where you keep your coffee at home, and tell us why it lives there.

  • A “Record a video answer” button, with the note “Up to 90 seconds · uses your camera and microphone.”
  • While recording, they see themselves on screen, a timer reading 0:42 / 1:30, and a Stop button.
  • Afterwards, “Recorded (42s)”, a player to watch it back, and “Re-record”.

What you see in your results

  • A card with the recording, ready to play, and its length, 42s.
  • A Transcribe button. Press it and the card shows the answer as one block of text.
  • Above the transcript, a language menu to read it in another of Survizo's twelve languages.

It's in the cupboard above the kettle. My partner has it every morning and I only drink it at weekends, so it goes where the mugs are. The beans are in a jar, because the bag never closes properly once it's open.

In detail

Easy for members to record, easy for you to read in your language.

Recording, on the member's side

Members record in their browser with their front camera and microphone, with nothing to install. They can record in Chrome, Firefox or Safari, and whichever they use, every recording plays the same way for you. If the member moves on to the next question, their recording is kept.

If the camera is blocked, the question asks the member to allow it and try again. Each recording stops by itself at 90 seconds, which keeps answers short and quick to watch.

  • Up to 90 seconds
  • Watch back, re-record
  • Camera and microphone

Transcripts, when you ask for them

You, your moderators and any clients you invite can each press Transcribe on an answer to turn it into text. Survizo recognises the language from what the member says, guided by your community's main language. One language is transcribed through a closely related one, so you still get the words. Those transcripts carry a label, so you know to double-check formal terms.

A transcript takes a short while, and the card shows you while it is still being made. Once ready, it is saved on the answer. If the card stops showing progress before then, press Transcribe again and it carries on from where it got to.

  • You start it, per answer
  • Language found from the speech
  • Saved on the answer

Reading it in your language

Once an answer has a transcript, a menu lists the other languages you can read it in, each name written in its own language, with the original first. Choose one and the transcript is translated into it. The original is always one tap away.

Right-to-left languages always read right to left, whatever language you use Survizo in. Each answer keeps up to five of its translations, so the next colleague who opens one reads it straight away at no extra cost. Each translation uses one unit of your AI allowance, once, however many colleagues read it afterwards.

  • Names in their own language
  • Translated once, then kept
  • Original one tap away

Once answers are in

Video answers flow into your results, reports and downloads.

In your results and AI reports

The question's summary shows how many members answered on video. Depending on your plan, once two or more answers are transcribed, the AI sorts them into themes and shows how people feel, right under the videos. AI reports quote from the transcripts, just as they quote written answers. On a very large survey, the report reads a sample, says so plainly, and notes what it left out.

The AI works from transcripts, so press Transcribe on every answer you want in the analysis.

  • Counted as video answers
  • Themes found in the transcripts
  • Transcripts feed reports

In the data you export

In your Excel and SPSS downloads, each video question gets one column showing which members recorded an answer. The videos and transcripts stay in Survizo, ready to watch and read, and the guide in your download says so.

  • One column per question
  • Shows who recorded
  • Video stays in Survizo

Who can watch, and what happens when a member asks to be deleted

Each recording is stored in a folder that belongs to the member who made it. You, your moderators and any clients you invite watch it through a private link made for that answer, which expires after one hour. Survizo checks every link against the answer in your community that holds the video, so each link opens that one recording and nothing else.

When a member asks for their data to be erased, their video answers are deleted. The transcript and the video's length stay, no longer linked to the member, so you can still check the findings you drew from them. Deleting a community deletes its video answers too.

  • Your team and invited clients
  • Private links that expire
  • Deleted when a member asks

At a glance

Video answers in six facts.

  • A question type

Add a video question to any survey, next to your other questions.

  • Up to 90 seconds

Members record in the browser, and can watch back and re-record before they submit.

  • Transcribed on request

Press Transcribe on an answer and the text is saved on it.

  • Read in your language

Each language is translated once and kept for the next reader.

  • In your reports and downloads

AI themes and reports draw on the transcripts, and your downloads show who recorded.

  • Deleted when a member asks

When a member asks for their data to be deleted, their recordings go and the transcript stays with no link to them.

The next step

Book a fit call.

Thirty minutes with the people who build Survizo. Bring a project you have coming up. You'll leave knowing whether Survizo fits it and how soon you could launch.

We answer within one working day, Monday to Friday, UK time. We use these details to arrange the call and to keep a record of our conversation. Privacy
